First Semester of College and Drama

For all intents and purposes, I will be changing the names of people mentioned in this blog.


It's my first year of college and I have a roommate (obviously) named Joann. Joann has a girlfriend named Ellen. I worked with my roommate (and Ellen) this summer and thought I knew her pretty well, but Joann was different than I thought. I was kind of aware she had a girlfriend, but it was not the most noticeable relationship because they tried to keep it private and did not want people to notice. (As a side note, I have no problem with homosexual relationships.) They apparently broke up after work ended this summer. I was not aware they got back together until my roommate and I arrived at college in which Ellen goes to school, also. The first week of college was decent, but I imagine there was something going on between Joann and Ellen. The first full weekend we were at college, Belle, Joann's best friend came to spend two nights with us. We also worked with her this summer. Belle was fun to have around, but she was ignored by Joann... I found this very odd because 1) they are best friends and 2) Belle took her entire weekend off to come spend it with mostly Joann. She was very upset when finding out about Ellen. She was sure that their relationship had ended and now that it seemed they were back together again. At our dorm, we have a two a.m. curfew for guests on the weekends. It was Friday night and it was around 2 a.m. I mentioned to Ellen we could get in trouble if she didn't leave. She waved her hand and laid back down next to Joann. I found this very disrespectful to my space and rules and to Belle. She was here to spend the night and we actually had permission for her to. In the morning, Ellen went to her room. Joann, Belle and I went to eat breakfast and tried to talk to Joann about the situation. We did not get through to her because she kept changing the topic. Unfortunately, the Joann-Ellen situation has been going on for over a month. That is not the only thing that has progressed.... They appear to be back together and make out all the time in our dorm room. I have tried to drop hints to make Ellen realize she is intruding, but she does not get the clues. I plan on talking to my roommate and telling her how I feel about this situation. I don't fee this is Joann and Bailey's room anymore. I feel it is Joann and Ellen's. I have been in contact with Joann's mom, who feels strongly against what they are doing. She feels as if Ellen is manipulative and Joann has a fear of being alone so she is drawn towards Ellen. Belle has also agreed with me on all these points and I feel it has affected not only my life, but also the friends and family of Joann.
